Where it works best

Photos have one subject, and phones crop the sides of a picture to fill the screen. A subject in the middle survives that crop. On the lock screen, open sky or a plain background at the top keeps the clock readable. A busy photo behind your apps is harder to live with than a calm one, so many people keep photos for the lock screen.

How to set it

Download it first. On an iPhone, move it from Files into Photos, then open it, tap Share and choose Use as Wallpaper. On a Samsung Galaxy, open it in Gallery, tap the three dots and choose Set as wallpaper. On a Pixel, open it in Google Photos, tap the three dots, then Use as and Wallpaper. You can set it on the lock screen, the Home screen or both.
